*** FEATURE CLASS *** Sabot

The Sabot is a single handed, single sailed dinghy sailed all around Australia. Boats are 8 foot long and mostly made of fibreglass or wood. It is easy to sail and is used as a training class for later youth classes. Children may sail two-up up to and including the season they turn twelve (although often they change to one-up during that season, or even earlier) and one-up until they are 16. Unlike in the Optimist their last season is the one in which they turn 16, not the one in which they turn 15.

Sabots are a popular junior/youth sailing class and are sailed all around Australia. Sabot week is run at the same time as the Nationals, allowing less experienced sailors to get a taste of big fleet racing.

The National Championships were held at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania over the Christmas/New Year period, where Tasmania was represented by 12 Senior Division and 1 Junior Division Sabots.
